M3 - Explain the role of ethical secision making in organisational IT security.

In this report I will be analysing about ethics and how it would affect company s as well as if these organisations have the right to keep us under camera all the time. The word ethics means the moral principles that a person behaves under. This means that if someone was to have good ethics towards homeless people then they would help that homeless person by giving them some money or something like that. This would also apply to organisations/companies. It is important for organisations to consider ethics when dealing with people information as it would mean that they would need to be considerate about that persons information or not and releasing that information as well as just letting people gain that information. If a company was to have bad ethics then they would let that person’s information just slip by and let other organisation gain that information.

Freedom of information is a law that allows general public people access to data help by the government. An advantage of this law to a company would be that they could train their employs on how these laws work and what kind of information they should give out and what they should not, For an example of someone was to ask an employ of that company about some information and that employ told them a bit too much then they would be in some trouble. This would also affect the IT security as people might be able to gain more information than they are allowed and might leak that information out to the public. This links to ethics as in the phone scandal it was able to be under covered because of Freedom of Information, this is good as it would mean that the people know where their money is going.

Personal privacy is the control of what kind of information you are combatable to send out over the internet and to other people. This could benefit a company as they would have access to their employer’s information however as the privacy act would state that the company do not have the right to share that information to any other organisation as well as anyone in any other form unless it was said to be ok by the person her/himself. A disadvantage would be that people do not have as much security as they would think as almost everything we do on the internet is track and people could easily take out information and use it to get our credit card numbers as well as where we live and where we work. So people’s information is not always safe, this would also apply to companies as people would be able to gain access to company information through the freedom of information act.

Permission through the use of CCTV, video and photo is an legal act as this would go under the stalker and harassment act meaning that you are keeping track on a person’s information and all the things that they do not matter where they are. However if it is for “security” then it seems to be fine or if it is run by the police or government. This would relate to ethics issues as this might have a bad ethic on the government as people might see them as not giving people there privacy, this might also apply to the company Google the reason for their Google maps and its street view. By this I mean people who getting their information and faces on their street view which would mean that the company would be reasoning people information without that person finding out.

The ethics of a company should be considered on any act that they do as it would be important for the company to do something really useful as it would mean that a company isn’t acting blindly and just acting to their own accord. This would also have the effect on an organisation as it would have to deal with a lot of their issues if it had a wrong type of ethics.
